Great question — and probably the one I get asked most! The Prompts, Pitch & POD Guide isn’t a calendar, it’s a roadmap. The months are intentionally arranged to follow the industry timeline rather than the regular January–December year.

Art directors and companies usually work 12–18 months in advance, so if you want your Christmas artwork to be considered, you’ll need to start designing and pitching it long before December. This format helps you stay ahead of the seasons — so when companies are looking for those designs, your portfolio is already ready to go.

Q: The guide used to be free — why do we have to pay for it now? +

When I first created the guide, it started as a free resource for the surface design community. Over time, it’s grown into something much more comprehensive — with trend research, pitching timelines, colour palettes, and even bonus sections for wallpaper and blenders.

Creating it now takes weeks of research, testing, and design work to make sure it’s genuinely useful and up-to-date. Charging a small amount allows me to continue improving it each year, while keeping it affordable for everyone.
